Under the hood on the base model is a 3.5-liter V6 engine that produces 295 horsepower and 263 lb-ft of torque, plus an eight-speed automatic transmission. With an optional tow package, the Toyota Highlander can also tow up to 5,000 pounds. Similar to the Hyundai SUV, this model has forward collision-avoidance with pedestrian detection and lane following assist as standard. However, rear occupant alert, highway driving assist, and safe exit assist are not available. An eight-inch touchscreen is standard on the Toyota Highlander with the same connectivity as the 2020 Hyundai Palisade.
